What we are:
Association for community training better known as ACT was blossomed in the year 1981 by a body of like minded people who have thirst to serve the society, quench to render social justice and to create equalitarian society under the leader ship of Mr.S. Arulandu, secretary mentor of ACT who was not satisfied to work for salaried job but wanted to work for rural marginalized poor where as he wanted to voice, struggle for ensuring their rights till their last breath in the world and aspired to have peaceful death ACT has been working in over 110 villages of Mugaiyur constituency, Villupuram district, Tamilnadu, India. As a Jubilant organization ACT has been progressively crossing 27 years of service.

Mission:-
Through the process of multi facetted initiatives empowerment protect fundamental rights of the poor and the marginalized and fight against discrimination on the basis of caste, color, gender language, religion and restore human dignity to the down trodden
Important Learning:-
? The poor are willing to be educated if there is a proper guidance
? Financial support could trigger development and through which other field of development
? the organized village community organization, community residential volunteers could play a vital role in developing a better empowered society.
? The leadership qualities are emerging among the marginalized
? People are ready to take up responsibilities and became self reliant self sustainable if there is any monitoring input
? Micro credit is the need of the hour in order to life the life of poor women and to create boosted confident life.
? There is a lot of awareness among poor too.
Salient Features of Our Activities:-
1. Non – Formal Education:-
Association for community training received grant from ASW, Germany in 1985 to promote cultural awareness, community organizing and human rights programs to educate the Dalit about their legal rights, through setting up of Non-formal educational centre at local WSHGs women leader’s house at local achieved 35 poor school drop outs education and main streaming them in to formal school after 10 months of training in functional literacy, art of singing song, story telling, etc, The centre was manned by local educated girls volunteer.
2. Village Wise Sangam Formation:-
Special efforts were taken to strengthen the women’s self groups resulting in an increase in membership from 2067 to 3057 Regular village visit by the women co-ordinators has assisted the women’s self groups to seek solution for various community problems and to strengthen the activities of the groups. The monthly subscription and saving make an important contribution and saving improving the economic and livelihood security of women.
3. Awareness Education (CEBEMO – Holland)
Our pilot project (completed in 1995) promoting health education and touched 14000 people in 18 villages in Mugaiyur block, Villupuram district. This project has had a multiplier effect through training social activist out real workers and health workers and expanding in to other near by villages.
4. Youth Animation:-
in 1996 – 1997 ACT deepening demaracy project was set up to train 400 village young boys and girls of 40 villages (100 each from 40 villages). Title of the programme was on constitutional reforms of village democracy there by benefiting the entire community concerned by providing training information and sensitization to there grass roots leaders we contributes to the growth of rural young boys and girls in developing personal the development and removing them from all form of social evils.
5. Small And Marginal Farmer Debate:-
(Rain water harvesting)
Rainfall occurs for only a few month due to global warming and excess amount of carbon – di –oxide by mushrooming of industries out let and also illicit tree cutting policy, bleate feature of biomass. The adequate availability of potable water is a major problem in the villages. In order to promote harvesting of rainwater for domestic and irrigational need and enrich the quality of drinking, cultivation water five units of rain water, roof catchment system were constructed in twenty villages, an impact of assessment of the technology intervention was done which illustrated the enormous value of the system in meeting the communities irrigational and drinking water requirements 20 small and marginal farmers unit was set up and trained on the set out topics each units consist of 25 farmer members.
6. Massive Rally To Fulfill The Basic Needs Of The People:-
A massive rally of 1000 women self help group members undertook a massive rally on most pressing needs of fulfilling the basic needs of rural poor dalith communities which was inaugurated by town chairman at Gandhi Statue Thirukovilur and ended at RDO office, Thirukovilur covering all the streets of Thirukovilur Town.
7. Condensed Course Program For (V – X Standard)
In an effort of promoting rural Dalit broken community children’s education and eliminating illiteracy. Condensed course program was carried out (1998/2002 four years of program) a total of 480 children who are taken from below poverty line family studying in the class V – X standard 10 years of schooling were benefited .The course aimed at giving special care and coaching on English, Math’s, Science in which they are weak invariably among rural sector. A total of 500 children were benefitted out of 50 village condensed course program, Organized by ACT manned by local educated volunteers cum train graduate teacher. Thus programs gave in-depth motivation among illiterate parents and enable to enhance enrollment at local school, elimination of never school goers, stagnation, drop-outs in our target areas are the results that we have achieved through this program.
8. Student Summer Camp For 9th and 10th Student:-
Invariably the rural door children weak in English, Math’s and Science resulting in poor retention, enrollment in higher studies Association for community training felt that setting up of student summer camp can reap a good harvest and eliminate illiteracy. In order to achieve the objectives we have trained the students to improve their standard and they come to know knowledge on various science educational courses for their bright future.
9. Literacy India Trust Program:-
In collaboration with Literacy India Trust’s support (project completed 1998-2005) we had opened adult literacy centers in 10 target villages. Each centre covered 25-30 senior citizen aged 55-65 years Functional literacy, easy way of self development programmes were taught in addition tea and snacks. The program was manned by a local girl volunteer who is trainer of training on counseling personality development. This programme played a vital role as it focuses to teach aged and middle aged people with functional literacy and to promote the skill to read and write.
10. Cultural Training Program:-
In partnership with ECOMWEL, Chennai
ACT’s women’s cultural troupe played an important role in the mass awareness programmes the concept of communal harmony environment health and education were spread through the use of folk songs and street plays. Ninety eight such programs were conducted. This provides good entertainment, gives expression to the cultural heritage of rural communities and reinforces their own values.
11. Income Generation Program (Goat, Cow Rearing General Government Program):
Give a mother a Goat a pilot goat rearing project was started in late 2008 in mugaiyur block, Villupuram district Tamilnadu, India In partnership with Mrs.Ingrid-Austria , we started by identifying a pilot group of 50 most vulnerable windows of 14 target villages, each women has provided with a she goat kid plus one Ram with initial and follow up training in goat rearing and management. Each women was able to build her own source of milk, manure meat, money for the benefit of her family by 2009 with gradual increase in participating women receiving free female kids from the original participants. Goat kids breeding is a stabilizing source of support of poor women which transform her life.
12. Mother and Child health programe:-
In partnership with Government Tamilnadu and central Government Pilot project completed in 2008 promoting health education and focusing on Reproductive and child health vegina cancer, death by breast cancer, illegal abortion, touched 12600 people in 36 villages in Mugaiyur block, Villupuram district, Tamilnadu, India. The project has had a multiplier effect through training lactating mothers, pregnant, and eligible couples and health workers.
13. Low External Input and Sustainable Agricultural Program “Extending contribution against Global warming)”
Under LEISA Net work initiatives a total 15 member NGO who are working for green and clean environment and 100 small and Marginal farmers (hidden leader) were motivated on Bio – Based agro’ activities like making compost, vermin compost, Bio – Pest control, Goat penning, Pounding, Leveling, cultivation of mono crops, water management through Rain water harvesting, drop – let water irrigational method on assertiveness of a weak program. The program was conducted by agricultural scientist Dr. Nammazhvar, and team, Kodumbam., Trichy. Increased traditional agricultural practice are the visible, and measureable evidence in our target areas .
14. National Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC) (2003 – 2008) “let us keep our rural surrounding clean and green”
With the support extended by C.P. Ramaswamy Iyyer Foundation, Nodel agencies for National Environment and Rural afferestration, Govt. of India ACT had to implemented multi phase programmes under the title water management, waste management, solid waste management in 20 target villages of Mugaiyur block, Villupuram district through the use of massive student’s Rally, undertaking tree plantation, cleaning water bodies drive, Reverse march by school students, promotion of Kitchen garden and so on. Since 1998 onwards ACT gas been working for these set out objectives and contributed it roles much.
15. Empowerment of widows for social change – PHP, USA:-
(Learn while I earn)
Developed as a Pilot project with Presbyterian hunger program, USA extended socio, economic support to village poor widows, It helped to build their capacities to generate in come from collective activity such as candle making and Goat rearing and provides crèche facility for their children while they work these livelihood activities enabled over 120 vulnerable people in these villages to improve their life. This project has bean in year 2.
16. Joint Action of Sustainable Livelihood (JASUL Net work):-
In an effort of special way and in order to promote rural environment and to keep clean bio – mass JASUL Net Work – a 15 member NGO’s collective had worked categorically in their target region to maintain clean and green environment like cleaning drive water bodies removing encroachments, under taking tree plantation deepening water wells, Rain water harvest structures etc.
17. Tamilnadu Construction Un Organized Manual Workers welfare board Trade Union:-
It is an innovative initiatives of ACT, started in the year 2003 a total of 3500 members who are working in various level of un organized level of work force like construction, Toddy collector, Quarry workers, people working in brickens are registered themselves in to trade union. They are all provided identify card with photos and enrolled their name s with ministry of labour and welfare, Govt of India. They are now eligible to get marriage assistance to their children educational support accident relief, support for the victims of natural calamities and man made calamities. So far a total of 1238 members of trade union are benefitted the ministry labour and welfare. They are too taught on Right to information ACT to achieve their rights.
18. Rural women Economic Empowerment:-
Association for community Training extends its heartiest gratification to Mrs. Ingrid Austria, for support extended to Rural poor widows, destitute and poor women’s development as they are the redeemer of at risk women to rehabilitate them through mushroom cultivation support. with the accrued income they are enable to live on moral life and self sustainable life without any moral danger. The little support of the great benefactor Mrs.Ingrid-Austria made the life of poor women self reliance. They offer their eye liding tears heart content as a token of love and affection to him. In a special way association for community train up to Ingrid madam for her further generous support of providing extended TVS scooti Two Wheeler to strength then the program in to success conduct.
19. Independent income Earning Opportunities:-
ACWW, UK’s support was a note worthy and became stabilizing source of life line of poor women entrepreneur. Goat rearing, Push cart, puffed rice, fried corn were the type of ventures, with the accrued income source a total of 26 women consist of widows, destitute, deserving have got a face lift and self reliance life style. Association for community training the project implementing organization has been working with close monitoring to take the program successful.
20. Sustainable Agricultural Practice and water Management. Emmaus International – France (2008-2009).
The project was aimed at development of ACT’s Farming activities which is meant for the livelihood development of rural poor women who like in Mugaiyur and surrounding 7 villages. Existing ground well was encroached by thorny bushes and land slide. So the well was deepened in to further 20 feet and restored irrigational water. In addition to that three rain water harvesting were set at Mugaiyur,Kodungal and sennakunam villages with the participation of local women self help group and small and marginal farmers unit.
21. Coastal Community Development program (Relief, Rehabilitation and Livelihood)
During 2005, our initial Tsunami response project on Villupura district coast line provided a much need counseling support to free from sea fear and to come for normal life which helped 13,430 children, adults, and contributed to rehabilitation of fishing community boats, nets and accessories and putting back to sea. . A total of 1750 fisher community peoples were provided with 3 type’s fishnet to have a fish catch as their own as they were acting as daily wage labourer previously before Tsunami visit.

Construction and Establishment of Technical Career Development Institute with Hostel accommodation in Mugaiyur Village “to promote technical education among rural poor
HIV/AIDS prevention through information, education
&communication (IEC) in Villupuram District
Lighting the life of Dalit women community in to empowerment.
Undertaking Human Rights issues and intensifying of Dalit rights activities.
Creation of Founder “Sevai Semmal “ S.Arulandu Ecological Farm Development as a demonstrative plant of Villupuram district.
